Meals are prepared and served to the hungry in SE Volusia County
The Community Hot Meal program serves hungry people in Southeast Volusia County. It operates every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at Hollister Hall, First United Methodist Church - NSB and on Tuesday and Thursday at Pettis Park.
This program, initiated over a decade ago, serves meals prepared by fourteen area churches and supported by an additional seven churches. The individual churches provide most of the food items for the meals and then prepare and serve them to hungry people in our area. Meal planners are challenged to provide a complete and balanced meal for 100-150 participants for $30, the amount allotted by CCUMC to pay for the meal. This year the program has averaged around 125 dinners per day. CCUMC has two crews which prepare food on the second Monday and third Wednesday of each month.
Donations of fruits and vegetables by Perrine's Produce are used to supplement the meal. Publix donates excess items prepared by its own bakeries. A CCUMC volunteer picks up these items at the Publix Stores on the beachside and on Route 44 and delivers them to the feeding program every day of the week.
For more information on how you can support this program or volunteer to help, call Bobbi Wilson, Monday team chair, at 416-9669 or Joan Harvey, Wednesday team chair, at 428-6863.
