What can I expect from Disciple?

Disciple 1 "Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study" - A 34-week study of the whole Bible, Genesis to Revelations.

Disciple 2 "Into the Word Into the World" - a 32-week study of Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts.

Disciple 3 "Remember Who You Are" - A 32-week study of the Phophets and the Letters of Paul.

Disciple 4 "Under the Tree of Life" - a 32-week study on a variety of New and Old Testament books including the Psalms, Proverbs, the Gospel of John and the writings.

SHORT TERM DISCIPLE CLASSES NOW AVAILABLE!  Each short term study lasts 8 to 12 weeks and follows the format of Disciple Classes.

Invitation to Genesis -  “In the beginning…” Those words in Genesis may be among the most familiar words in all the Bible. Many recognize Genesis as a book that describes the Creation. But the creation of the world only takes up the first 2 chapters of a fifty-chapter book. What are the other chapters about?

Invitation to John -  This study invites students to come and see Jesus - to hear him speak, to see his signs - and to consider anew what it means to be his followers.

Invitation to Romans -  It is difficult to overstate the importance of Romans in Church Tradition. The challenge in reading it is to learn to have our own conversation with the text itself. Key themes will be: 1)Paul’s emphasis on communal salvation; 2) the centrality of God’s righteousness; & 3) the relationship between Jews & Gentiles and the relationship of both to God.

Invitation to Psalms - In the Book of Psalms, the grand promise of the reign of God is constantly colliding with the gritty, historical experience of God's people to make sense of who Gog is and who they  are becomes as volatile as the grinding plates of continents.  This study invites us to engage the Psalms at the deepest levels of our hearts, where God's faithfulness confronts the most challenging aspects of our lives.

Guest Preacher:

Rev. Marilyn Beecher, Church and Community Worker, East Central District, Florida Conference

The Rev. Marilyn Beecher, a United Methodist missionary serving as a Church and Community Worker, will be the guest preacher on Sunday, August 22.  She will preach  at both the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services. Her sermon topic is Words and Deeds, based on Matthew 21:28-32.

Ms. Beecher’s responsibilities as a Church and Community Worker involve helping congregations in East Central Florida develop new outreach ministries, with special emphasis on work with children and youth, disaster response, immigrants, and hunger programs.

She says about her work: “If churches are to live up to the call of the Gospel, then they cannot just care for their own members, but they must be engaged with the people around them and be beacons of hope for the community.”

Prior to her current assignment, Ms. Beecher was a Church and Community Worker in Miami, working with three Haitian congregations to develop new outreach and evangelism ministries. She also served as a United Methodist missionary in Bulgaria from 1993 to 1997.
