Volunteers, organized through Coronado Community UMC, meet with the children of the New Smyrna Oretha Bell Boys and Girls Club on Monday and Wednesdays. Club members share a wide range of ethnic diversity, academic ability, and economic backgrounds. Their one common need is for encouragement to reach their full potential. Currently, there are about 182 children enrolled in the club with an average daily attendance of around 40 each day.
TutorTime mentors meet with the children in grades K through 5 and help them with reading, math and other homework tasks. During Tutor Time, these mentors share God’s love through their presence, smiles, compassion and knowledge. They encourage academic excellence, and reward hard work with holiday parties. Through tutoring, mentors make personal connections that say, I care about you and I am here to help you do well in school.
