e and celebrate Shrove Tuesday with a traditional pancake supper. Shrove (from the old word shrive which means “to confess”) Tuesday was the last day to indulge in foods forbidden during Lent; i.e., pancakes made with fat and eggs.
All of the fats in the house needed to be used up before Ash Wednesday marked the beginning of Lent.
